Each day we offer a Theodore Roosevelt related item.

Someone asked why the preamble each day? Simply to provide a bit of context.

A new power emerged onto the world stage in the early 20th century. In the post Civil War years the industrial might of a growing nation produced remarkable goods, great wealth, and amazing advances in technology. With the conclusion of the Spanish American War, the US joined her elder European counterparts as an true colonial power, an empire. Cries of Imperialism, Gunboat Diplomacy, and Underhandedness were hurled toward the nation and specifically President Theodore Roosevelt. "American Isolationism" was at an end! The following two works view TR's foreign policy in the Caribbean from diametrically opposed viewpoints. Hill's reading implies that Roosevelt's actions in dealing with the problems and the policies created, that were crafted to deal with those problems were inherent in his personality and opportunistic. Hill contends that TR practiced a "benevolent Imperialism", but always worked toward a strong "National Defense".
Collin sees the events and reactions in a different light stating that latin American countries suffered do to modernism not American Imperialism. Roosevelt may have been paternalistic to a degree but his eye was always on European nations who might take advantage to get a foothold in the South. The Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine stands as a bulwark in hemispheric defense. Both works are important contributions to the History of American Foreign Policy in the region.

We offer the following postpaid and net to all @$100.00;
