[Abbe de Marsy and Adrien Richer:] Histoire Moderne des Chinois, des Japonnois, des Indiens, des Persans, des Turcs, des Russiens, des Americains &c. Tome Trentieme. Paris: Sailllant & Nyon et Veuve Desaint, 1778. First edition. Small 8vo (17 cm) in full period mottled calf, spine tooled in gilt; [4], 297, [1], 224 pp.

"Histoire des Flibustiers," volume 30 of the Histoire Moderne, complete in itself, the text devoted entirely to pirates, buccaneers and freebooters: "ces scelerats qui, sous le nom de Flibustiers, ont ravages les cotes de l'Amerique." With chapters on the lives and exploits of l'Olonois, Henry Morgan, Daniel Montbars ("surnomme l'Exterminateur"), Edward Teach (Blackbeard), Bartholomew Roberts (Black Bart), Edward England, Mary Read, Anne Bonny, Stede Bonnet, Edward Low ("& son Troupe") and others. A lively account, written and published within living memory of some of the pirates it describes. This being the final volume of the Histoire Moderne, the latter part of the book consists of an index to the complete work.

Binding with very light wear, the top of the front joint splitting slightly; ink stamp to title-page and one leaf of text (no other library marks), occasional small spots to the leaves, otherwise very clean and fresh, firmly and handsomely bound. Front paste-down with small book label of "Sem. Maj. Valentin."
