In anticipation of the opening of the political seasons on both sides of the border, we are pleased to offer: William Combe. The First of April: or, the Triumphs of Folly: a Poem. London: J. Bew, 1777. First edition, var. with ‘lie’ for ‘are’ at iii: 3, ( iv, 38 pp.). “Dedicated to a celebrated dutchess by the author of The Diaboliad.” In rather unpleasant olive green cloth and brown endpapers (c. 1900), a few small text repairs (patched), but a tight clean copy of Combe’s satirical poem often found bound with his earlier Diaboliad. A scarce book. $150
