First edition; octavo; pp; xv, (i), 529, appendices, index; gilt lettered brown cloth, top edge, gilt; frontispiece and forty-eight black and white illustrations and a map; Very good, a bright, tight, solid copy; This copy inscribed and dated by the author “To Cunning Cornelia, with the affectionate good will of her very aged friend, the Author, September 12, 1910”. Cornelia Landon Evarts, the friend of his wife Edith. TR returned from Africa in June of 1910, this was signed in September at Oyster Bay, just three months after his return.  Laid in are four photographs; one of Cornelia, Kermit Roosevelt and their friend Dill Starr, in tennis attire with rackets. Starr was the All-American Harvard Quarterback that joined the British Army and was killed in WWI, verso pencil identifications. Another shows Kermit, Cornelia and Dill with three others, taken no doubt the same day. An exemplary piece with association value.
