[Alfred Henry Forrester:] A Guide to the Watering Places; with Illustrations. By Alfred Crowquill. London: J. & F. Harwood and Simpkin & Marshall, [1839?]. Presumed first (and only?) edition. Tall 8vo (21.5 cm) in original stiff card printed boards; [2], 50, [2] pp.; with terminal leaf of publisher's adverts, 8 hand-colored plates.

"Alfred Crowquill's" humorous illustrated guide to the bathing and watering places so popular at the time. With sections on: Margate; Ramsgate; Dover; Brighton; Hastings; St. Leonard's New Town; Worthing; Sea Bathing; Donkey Parties; Pleasure Boats; The Voyage Out; The Voyage Home; etc. Spine paper splitting (but binding is holding), light spotting to the boards with browning to the rear board; toning to the contents. Now housed in a custom cloth jacket (somewhat worn). An uncommon book: OCLC locates only 3 copies in the UK (BL, Cambridge, Wellcome) and 3 in the U.S. (Harvard, Michigan, Notre Dame).
