MOORE, John, M.D. A JOURNAL DURING A RESIDENCE IN FRANCE, FROM THE
BEGINNING OF AUGUST, TO THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER, 1792, TO WHICH IS ADDED,
AN ACCOUNT OF THE MOST REMARKABLE EVENTS THAT HAPPENED AT PARIS FROM
THAT TIME TO THE DEATH OF THE LATE KING OF FRANCE. Chambersburg, PA &
New York: Andrew Dover for Matthew Carey & Thomas and James Swords, 1797
& 1794. Two duodecimo (4-1/8" x 7") volumes bound together in 19th
century polished calf and marbled boards; 233; 354 pages. A curious
coupling of two separately published volumes. The first volume is Evans
32493. Although the title page indicates that there is a second volume
to this scarce Chambersburg imprint, Shipton & Mooney in their Short
Title Index of Evans states, "Apparently vol. 2 was not published."
Evans also calls for a map, and indeed some but not all copies have a
map of General DuMourier's campaign on the Meuse in 1792, engraved by W.
Ralph, but it is not present here. The second volume is Evans 47117.
Text lightly foxed, occasional pencil underlining, binding firm. Very
Good or better example of a scarce imprint. (#017175) $100.00
