Harriet Beecher Stowe: Uncle Tom's Cabin. With Twenty-seven Illustrations on Wood by George Cruikshank, Esq. London: John Cassell, 1852. First edition thus; 8vo (19.5 cm) in early/period half leather and marbled boards; xxiii, [1], 391, [1] pp.; engraved frontispiece portrait and title-page vignette, plus 27 wood-engraved plates by Cruikshank. Douglas 259; Cohn 777.

First English edition and the first to be illustrated by Cruikshank. Binding rough: well worn and rubbed, front board (with endpapers and frontispiece) nearly detached; contents with offsetting to and from the plates, most prominently on the title-page; occasional soiling, spots and light creases throughout, a few leaves with corners bent.
