our of front fly leaf at top and prior owners stamp on bottom of title
page. The color plates and all other pages are in perfect condition. ; A
beautiful scientific book on hummingbirds. In addition to the 29 color
plates, the professor provides the Latin names, identifies the body
parts, and describes the characterics of the birds. Everything you've
always wanted to know and see in up close color! Whether you are a
collector of all things Hummingbird or a student of this amazing
creature or love the illustrator, you will want this book. Etienne

Light, faint stain to top page edges, fragile white spine lettering
mostly effaced, boards a trifle bowed and minor rubbing to binding
extremities; a good, sound copy. Adventure, mystery and intrigue in
Egypt centering around a descendant of Ahtka-Ra, High Priest of Amen.
Published anonymously by Baum, who was at that point quite famous for
his OZ books. The first edition, 1st state was done in 1907. Always ask
what date is on the "verso" before investing big bucks in a first

8vo 8" - 9" tall; 400 pages; Scholarly history of the achievement of
African Americans, along with a history of their heritage: Origin, and
Ethnology. Written by two esteemed African American men, Col. Giles B.
Davis and Daniel Davis Webster. With chapters on: African Slavery in
America, Slavery in the North and South, Negro Soldiers: Revolutionary
War; War of 1812; Mexican War and Civil War; Emancipation of the Negro;
Spanish American War; Religious Advancement; Early Education; Business
and Commerce; African American Farmers and Inventors; the Negro in
Literature and Music; Negro Womanhood. Giles B. Jackson's letters to the
public, Senate, Petition to Congress, State of Virginia, etc. , to
obtain support and funds for organization and Charter of The Negro
Development and Exposition Company, of the United States of America,
which would develop the Jamestown Negro Exhibit of 1907. Special
features of this Exhibit an Emergency Hospital and Operating room, a
committee of Negro physicians; concerts of Plantation Songs; mechanical
devices, manufacturers, and inventions by artisans of the Negro race.
The exhibit covered all areas of progress of the African American race
from banks and business, literature, art, crafts, community services,
agriculture, education, and people who received, Bronze, Gold or Silver
Medals for their achievements. The provides an extensive view of this
ground breaking exhibit and the people involved, inclusive of President
Roosevelt's visit and comments. Photographs throughout The author's
included chapters on lyrics of "Poems, Plantation Melodies, etc. ," and
"Statistics of the Race". Giles B. Jackson, (1853-1924) , born as a
slave in Gochland City, Virginia; he became the first black lawyer to
practice before the Supreme Court of Virginia; Jackson organized and
promoted the Jamestown Negro Exhibit at the Jamestown Tercentennial in
1907, a huge undertaking chronicling the accomplishments of the Negro
race. This book was published a year later. Daniel Webster Davis,
(1862-1913) , born enslaved, Caroline County, Virginia. Davis became a
teacher who also conducted teacher training in West Virginia and North
Carolina.. He trained for the ministry at Lynchburg Baptist Seminary and
Guadalupe College, he was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1895. An
impressive well known lecturer highly praised for his preaching style.
He appeared in the lecture circuits in the South and Northeast, and
toured with the Central Lyceum Bureau through Ohio, New York and New
England. Davis stressed the importance of African culture, family,
religion and education. He was an uplifting speaker motivating African
Americans to be proud of their achievements, and continue to strive for
equal opportunity and their fundamental rights . Original paper boards
over red cloth spine, decorative border and floral illustration to
boards, black lettering. Title in black to spine. Moderate soil, heavier
to edge of front board, mild rubbing of extremities. Light foxing of end
papers, no writing. Bright clean text, and illustrations. One hundred
and five illustrations. Index to rear, list of Corrections to text. Last
page has a very pale abrasion to some text (very readable) from the e.

in two columns with the Random House New York below the titles and the
numbers 394-82490-3 on the lowe/inner corner. The D. J. Has the $2.50
price in the right cormer of the front flap (not price clipped). At the
top of the rear d. J. Is the Logo, then a 3 line quote from the Boston
Herald Traveler, then 4 lines of text. All of these features are why
I've listed it as a first edition. If you additional questions to
establish edition, please ask prior to ordering. The D. J. Has a 3
closed tear near the spine and edges but because the d. J. Is now
protected in mylar, they are quite unnoticable. There is an erasure on
the front free fly leaf and pencied in name of prior owner.
