Thomas Love Peacock: The Genius of the Thames: A Lyrical Poem, in Two Parts. London: Printed for T. Hookham, Jun. and E. T. Hookham, 1810. FIRST EDITION; 8vo (20 cm) in original publisher's plain blue boards, rebacked to style with the original printed spine label preserved; custom clamshell box; vii, [1],147, [1] pp.; with the half-title.

First edition of the first major work by Peacock (1785-1866), best known for his satirical novels (Headlong Hall, Nightmare Abbey, etc.) and for being the intimate friend of Percy Bysshe Shelley. Bumping and modest soiling and edge-wear to the boards, darkening to the spine label; mild toning to the leaves, some darkening/dust-soiling to the untrimmed page edges, light spotting to the endpapers and a few stray small spots elsewhere, else very clean and crisp, firmly bound. Front paste-down with the engraved armorial bookplate of Bodegroes (Wales) bearing the motto, "Cerwch uniondeb." Now housed in a handsome cloth and marbled paper clamshell box.
