Added copper engraved title (dated 1614). Title page with a large engraved portrait of Raleigh. With the leaf "The Minde of the front," mounted, and with a repair at the top of the leaf with a 3" loss to the wood engraved headpiece. With the 8 added plates, which are 6 double-page maps, and 2 double-page plans. One plate with a neat marginal repair (no loss). Cont. calf, rebacked at an early date. Corners of the calf covers are worn and hinges a bit rubbed but overall very good.    $2,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
Fourth edition (first is 1614) of Raleigh's famous history written during his imprisonment in the Tower between 1607 and 1614. Note: two gatherings in this copy (2M and 2N) are mis-folded, but complete. STC 20640.
