[Thomas Love Peacock:] Crotchet Castle. By the Author of Headlong Hall. London: T. Hookham, 1831. FIRST EDITION; 8vo (17.75 cm) in original publisher's boards, rebacked to style with modern printed spine label; 3-12, [8], 300 pp.; with publisher's catalog bound at the front (lacking first leaf), the advertisement leaf before the title-page, and half-title bound after the title.

The penultimate of Peacock's cycle of satirical novels, preceded by Nightmare Abbey in 1818 and followed a generation later by Gryll Grange in 1861. In between times, he was busy at his day job in the East India Company. In addition to his inimitable satires, Peacock is remembered for being the intimate friend of Percy Bysshe Shelley. Some bumping and wear to the edges of the original boards; edges of the text block a little darkened and dust-soiled, leaves with a few scattered small spots and occasional light soiling; otherwise clean and sound, firmly bound; now housed in a handsome cloth and marbled paper clamshell box.
