Charles Dickens: The Mystery of Edwin Drood. London: Chapman and Hall, 1870. First edition; 8vo in early 1/2 leather and marbled boards; vii, [1], 190 pp.; with the portrait frontispiece, extra engraved title-page, and 12 plates. A rather rough but salvageable copy: spine leather gone, both boards detached, old cellotape repairs; leaves toned with occasional spotting, mostly light and relegated to the top margins. Front free-endpaper with an enigmatic early inscription: "Tell me thou[?] 'Lord of the Sunny Isle' what doth the 'Spirit of the South Wind' say!? Decbr. 10th 1872."
