illustrations throughout, a few tables; text clean, unmarked. Pictorial
wrappers, stapled, added clear mylar dust-jacket; binding square and
tight, covers soiled and chipped with loss, cellophane tape repairs, the
spine is mostly chipped away, covers hold on with old cellophane tape,
rear cover and remnants of the spine now nearly entirely separated, but
held in place with a new mylar dust-jacket. SCARCE. Good.

FIRST EDITION. Published by the California, Louisiana Purchase
Exposition Commission. The front cover boasts a reproduction of an
allegorical oil painting "California" that depicts California as a
comely virgin holding the fruits of the new region and accompanied by
two domesticated grizzly bears. Contains 32 separate articles by various
leading authorities holding forth on the subjects they know best,
including Wm. E. Smythe on "The Triumph of Irrigation;", Dr. C. T. Deane
on "The Oil Industry of California;" Charles Bundschu on "Viticulture in
California;" David Starr Jordon on "The Fishes of California;" James D.
Phelan on "Commerce and Commercial Relations of California;" and J. R.
Knowland on "Past and Present of the Franciscan Missions of California;"
with additional articles on Oranges, Olives, Forests, Lumber, and much
