Alabama Slave Document. HANDWRITTEN SALES BILL OF THE PROPERTY OF THOMAS G.
DANNER, JANUARY 1st, 1845. Original manuscript. 4pp, folio, sepia ink in a
legible hand, 13" x 8". Two columns per page: purchaser names on the left,
items sold on the right. Among the clocks, side boards, books, beds,
tables, saddles, foods, farm tools, and such are listed 18 slaves: One
Negro boy, Jas, 640.00; One Negro boy, Martin, 652.00; One Boy, Nelson,
659.00; One Boy, Isaac, 700.00; One Boy, Grun, 702.00; One Boy, William,
200.00; One Boy, Milton, 475.00; One Boy, Ralph, 485.00; One Boy, Nathan,
440.00; One Woman, Martha & Child, 1500.00; One Boy, David, 415.00; One
Girl, Jannet(?), 600.00; One Boy, George, 600.00; One Girl, Hanah, 199.00;
One Boy, Charles, 800.00; One Boy, Albert, 650.00; One Girl, Elisa, 615.00;
One Girl, Winney, 31.00; followed by hogs, corn, heifers, cows, yearlings,
candle sticks, &c. Very Good.
Besides members of the Danner family, the buyers named at this sale
include: Bates, Gosset, Castly, McCord, McCoy, Wilbanter, Ray, Wilbourn,
and Briggs. Thomas G. Danner and family were apparently wealthy landowners
in Sumter County, Alabama, before the War Between the States. $400.00
