Four volumes of the Amsterdam printing of Le Journal des Sçavans [Savants], the earliest scientific and academic journal published in Europe, its first issue, appearing in January, 1665, beating by two months the debut of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. Volumes 28, 29, 31 and 58, comprising the years 1700, 1701, 1703 and July-December of 1715. With articles relating to astronomy, chemistry, medicine, natural history, mathematics, classical and modern history, theology, etc., etc.

Vellum bindings with some dust-soiling, bowing to the boards; contents modestly toned with occasional browning, a few scattered spots and small stains; generally clean, firmly bound.
