Maine, Scarborough / Fabyan, Joshua and Sarah. LAND TRANSFER FROM JOSHUA &
SARAH FABYAN TO DANIEL MERRILL, SCARBOROUGH, CUMBERLAND COUNTY,
MASSACHUSETTS [later Maine], 6 MAY 1791: Partly printed, accomplished by
hand. Original manuscript. One page, quarto. The Fabyans sold Daniel
Merrill a 50.5-acre parcel for two hundred pounds cash. The land is
described as lying on the road to Bideford, bounded by the property of
Richard King's heirs and that of Rev. Benjamin Chadwick, &c., &c. Signed by
Joshua and Sarah Fabyan, witnessed by Joseph and George Fabyan, docketed on
the verso by Elias Merrill, Recorder of Deeds. 12.5" x 7.75" Very Good.
Joshua Fabyan (1742-1799) married Sarah Brackett Fabyan (1740-1820) on 9
January 1766 in Scarborough where they were born. Joshua Fabyan served as a
Judge in the Court of Common Pleas. He was descended on his mother's side
from George Cleeve, the first settler in Portland, Maine. ~~ Situate on the
southern coast of Maine, Scarborough was incorporated by the Massachusetts
General Court in 1658, and remained within the boundaries of the
Commonwealth until March 15, 1820 when Maine was granted statehood.
