First edition thus. Four volumes, 8vo (20 cm), in full crimson straight-grained morocco with gilt-tooled covers, spines and turn-ins, all page edges gilt, marbled endpapers; with the half-titles, portrait frontispiece and 14 engraved plates.

The collected works of the playwright Jean-François Regnard (1655-1709), considered the greatest French 17th-century comic poet after Moliere. Also included is a life of the playwright and his famous travel diary of 1681. A penciled note by an early owner/bookseller states that this set has been extra-illustrated with three engravings. Bindings with occasional rubbing to the boards and wormholes to the joints, modest wear to the extremities, sunning to the spines; two inner hinges cracked near the top (one with its endpaper and half-title loosening slightly), some cockling to the text leaves, mild toning and spotting to several plates; otherwise quite clean and bright, firmly bound.
