For your consideration we offer the following net to all and postpaid at
$275.00

The Scholar's Penny Gazette. Boston: Asa Fitz, & L.F. Forest, (Nos.
1-13) printed by Abner Forbes, (Nos. 14-52), printed by T. Morey;
1848-1849. Volume 1, Number 1, complete; Only edition; Volume 1, Number
1, Apr. 29, 1848 - Volume 1, Number 52, May 19, 1849; Quarto; each issue
4pp; (ii; 208), most issues illustrated with a wood engraving; quarter
leather and marbled paper covered boards, leather spine label lettered
in gilt; joints started but holding well, complete, very good, some
toning and foxing, edge wear; two of the later issues juxtaposed date
wise. Lomazow cites that this is all published. Other citations maintain
it was published through August 1850, we were able to find a few
holdings of odd issues beyond Vol. 1, #52; AAS's holdings are poorly
defined but they lack all of Volume Two. The Library of Congress holds
just this Volume One complete. There are no issues being currently
offered on the on-line data bases. Not to be confused with the "Youth's
Penny Gazette, published in Philadelphia; Quite scarce. This was the
first appearance of a periodical or newspaper targeted for teachers and
school children, a proto- "Weekly Reader".
