II. , circa 1945. Original photographs. Album contains about seventy (69)
4"x5" b&wé photographs in sleeves. Subjects include: indigenous men, women
and children of 1940s Burma in traditional costumes; several group
portraits with an American soldier present; cultural scenes and tradesmen
(potter, painters, calligraphers, food vendors, donkey carts,
basket-porter, seamstress, bell-player, beggar, knife-sharpener, weaver,
baker, &c.); farming (plowing with oxen, harvesting tea leaves, riding
caribou, tending crocodiles); elephants (moving in columns, working with
teak logs, working on a road, decorated with elaborate paint patterns,
&c.). Housed in clear photo sleeves and a modern, three-ring binder. 13.5"
x 8.5" Very Good. Decorated Boards.
These vernacular photographs by an unidentified soldier exhibit good
composition, lighting, and contrast, showing to advantage the beautiful
people of Burma.   $350.00
