SHAW, George Bernard. THIS IS THE PREACHMENT. ON GOING TO CHURCH. East
Aurora, NY: The Roycroft Printing Shop, 1896. First Edition. Bound in
cloth-backed boards with a gilt title on the cover. Laurence A26a.
Shaw's first work published in America, though an unauthorized one. Shaw
thought very little of what he saw as Roycroft's inferior imitations of
the Kelmscott Press productions. This copy INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the
publisher: "To Dr. Ely/with all good wishes/from his friend/Elbert
Hubbard." Hubbard died as a passenger on the cruise ship Lusitania when
it was torpedoed by the Germans off the coast of Ireland in May 1915.
His press managed to stay afloat a bit longer. Light soiling to covers.
Very Good. (#013042) $100.00
