“The Practice and Principles of Calico Printing, Bleaching, Dyeing, etc”
By Charles O’Neill.
Published in Manchester by Palmer and Howe in 1878.
The author was a Fellow of the Chemical Society, a member of the
Industrial Society of Mulhous, the Society of Rouen, Editor of ‘The
Textile Colourist’, and had written several related books on the subject
of textile printing.
He notes in the Preface- “this work aims at giving a complete account of
the progress and present state of Calico Printing and the connected
branches of Bleaching and Dyeing. It is written from a practical point
of view, and is not a treatise for the instruction of those entirely
unacquainted with the business, but rather a collection of notes and
memoranda on interest to those who are engaged in it. ... It may be
stated that the author has had a long experience of the business of
Calico Printing, and this book is the result of notes collected during
the spare hours of active occupation in it”.
2 volumes. Hardcover. 5.5”x8.5”, xi + 410 pages and vii + 420 pages,
not illustrated. Bound in period quarter leather and marbled boards.
Spines quite worn and labels partially perished, boards rubbed. Some
light chipping to the edges of the preliminary pages. Ex-institutional
with bookplates, pocket removed, and some minor markings. Otherwise
clean and nice, with tight bindings. $65
