Loudon Harcourt Gordon: An Apology for the Conduct of the Gordons; Containing the Whole of Their Correspondence, Conversation, &c. with Mrs. Lee: To which is Annexed an Accurate Account of Their Examination at Bow Street, and Their Trial at Oxford. The third edition. London: Printed for George Ginger, 1804. Pamphlet, 8vo (21 cm), rebound in modern wraps with printed labels, page edges dyed red; [2], xxxii, [35]-143, [1] pp.

The Gordon brothers were accused of abducting Mrs. Rachel Fanny Lee, an illegitimate daughter of the notorious rake Sir Francis Dashwood, and carrying her off into the countryside for immoral purposes. Evidence uncovered at the trial, however, suggested that Mrs. Lee was a less than wholly unwilling participant in the shenanigans and the Gordons were ultimately acquitted. Browning and spotting to the title page and the last leaf, occasional light spotting elsewhere, but generally quite clean and crisp, firmly and freshly bound. A rather uncommon title and an entertaining read, providing a fascinating glimpse at the louche side of Regency-era England.
