[Thomas Henry Lister:] Herbert Lacy. By the Author of Granby. In Three Volumes. London: Henry Colburn, 1828. FIRST EDITION. Three volumes, 8vo (19.5 cm), in early/period quarter forest green morocco and marbled boards, spines lettered in gilt. With the half-titles and a leaf of publisher's adverts at the rear of vol. III. Sadleir 1444.

The scion of an ancient family and the heiress of a commercial fortune are kept apart by the machinations of a designing villain. A duel, a ball, forged documents, a parliamentary election, etc., etc. A lively and witty contribution to the fashionable or "silver spoon" genre of novel, with some surprisingly astute observations on society and manners. A follow-up to the author's much admired novel, Granby (a copy of which we are also offering this week).

Bindings with rubbing to the boards, modest wear to the edges; contents lightly toned with occasional spots and scattered light foxing, else clean and sound, firmly bound. Front free-endpapers with the elegant early ownership signatures of C.P.[?] Des Lyons de Feuchin.
