Engraved in Imitation of These Masters and According to the Particular Taste of Each, with a Discourse on the Prejudices of Certain Critics, in Regard to Engraving. With a Short Account of His [Picart's] Life. London: Printed for J. Boydell, Engraver. 1756. Folio. (2),8,(2)pp. of text, plus a fine engraved portrait of Picart and 78 plates on 66 sheets (one a fine mezzotint), exactly as listed in the "Table of The Prints Contained in This Volume." A very nice copy in orig. marbled boards, modern plain calf backstrip, with 6 raised bands. Title page with an early note of the cost of this volume, "2 pounds, 6 shillings." Old bookplate of "D'Olier" (Jeremiah D'Olier, 1745-1817).    $2,000.00 (trade discount allowed)

Very scarce first English translation, after the French language original printing in Amsterdam in 1734. The ESTC records only 4 copies in England, and none in America.
