[Rarebooks] FS: Rare 1739 ed. of Arndt's emblem book "Paradis-Gaertlein" in contemporary painted vellum

(EMBLEM BOOK) Arndt, Johann. PARADIS-GAERTLEIN Voller Christlichen Tugenden... Mit Kupern Gezieret. Nuremberg: Peter Conr. Monath. 1739. 12mo. (48),458,(22)pp. Index. Copper engraved frontispiece portrait and 6 full-page emblematic plates, each with a border, with German verse. The plates are numbered 1-6. Bound in cont. ornately tooled vellum, with a floral pattern on both covers and spine. "Jesus" and a crown in a central oval stamp on both covers, borders tooled in black. The binding elements are hand painted in red, green, yellow and black. The front cover is stamped with initials "I. J. Bo." The rear cover is stamped "1747." A.e.g. Fantastic gold floral endpapers. Old minor water stains at lower inner corner of preliminaries.    $850.00 (trade discount allowed)
A rare separately printed edition of Arndt's "The Garden of Paradise" which is often found bound with SECHS BUCHER VOM WAHREN CHRISTENTHUM. This Nuremberg 1739 edition is not recorded by OCLC or in Landwehr's GERMAN EMBLEM BOOKS 1531-1888. OCLC does record a 1720 edition of PARADIS-GAERTLEIN by the same publisher, P. C. Monath.
