Macomb, John N. REPORT OF THE EXPEDITION from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to the Junction of the Grand and Green Rivers of the Great Colorado of the West, in 1859. With Geological Report by Prof. J. S. Newberry. Washington: Government Printing Office. 1876. Lg. 4to. vii,(1),152pp. Index plus 22 plates, including 11 fine chromolithographs, plus a very large (5 folded sections) map. Additionally there are 8 leaves of letterpress description of the plates not counted in the pagination. Orig. dark brown cloth, gilt spine. Some spotting on spine. Overall a very nice copy with the map in excellent condition, without repairs.    $1,250.00 (trade discount allowed)
At the top of the table "Engineer Department, U. S. Army." The map in this volume was called "One of the most beautiful maps ever published by the Army." (Wheat, Vol. IV, p. 142-143). Howes: The Final Edition M178 ("publication of this report was intended for 1861, but the Civil War compelled a delay of fifteen years").
