(INCUNABULA) Parentinis, Bernardus de. EXPOSITI OFFICII MISSAE. (Strassburg: unassigned, but possibly Preuss?. October 31, 1487). Folio 96 leaves (the last blank), complete. Double column, gothic type. Rubricated throughout with initial letters, paragraph marks and capitol strokes. 18th century German calf over decorated paper boards. Some occasional soiling. Spine with paper title labels.                     $6,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
A study of the Mass which went through 5 editions in the 15th century. A note in the BMC states that this book, "...was assigned by Mr. Proctor to Preuss, with the query 'or by Drach?'  The Cistercian Missal printed two months earlier in the same types Mr. Proctor originally entered under Preuss, though with a mark of doubt. Subsequently the Missal was transferred to Gruninger, but the Expositio left under Preuss. As it is possible that they types may have been the property of the Abbot of Baumgarten at Strassburg, it seems safer to enter this book as printed at Strassburg without assigning it to any named press." BMC I, 169; Goff, p. 110; HC 12420. ISTC ip00110000. Note: no 15th century edition of this text is recorded at auction on Rarebook Hub.
