Kalmar, Gyorgy. ...GRAMMATICALISCHE REGELN ZUR PHILOSOPHISCHEN ODER ALLGEMEINEN SPRACHE: das ist, der Sprache Aller Voelker Zeiten und Lebensarten. Wien (Vienna): Joseph Kurzback. 1774. 8vo. (4),xxiv,(6),114pp. plus 6 folded engraved plates and a fine mezzotint portrait frontispiece. Note: bound after p. 114 and before the 6 plates, is an 8 page pamphlet by Kalmar. It is titled, EST ET CHAMAELEON INTER PHILOSOPHOS, with the imprint at the bottom of the final leaf "Vienna: Typis Jahnianis. 1775." Cont. mottled calf, beautifully rebacked at an early date with an ornately gilt spine. A blank preliminary leaf has a 7 line Latin inscription about this book signed with initials by Kalmar, and dated in 1777. Some occasional text soiling but overall very good.    $1,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
A rare early work on the creation of a universal artificial language by the Hungarian author Kalmar (1726-1780?). The added 8 page pamphlet in this copy appears to be unrecorded.
