John Banister: A Synopsis of Husbandry. Being Cursory Observations in the Several Branches of Rural Oeconomy. Adduced from a Long and Practical Experience in a Farm of Considerable Extent. By John Banister, Gent. Of Horton Kirby, in Kent. London: Printed for G.G. and J. Robinson, Paternoster-Row, 1799. FIRST EDITION; 8vo (23 cm) in original publisher's boards; xvi, 471, [1] pp.; with the half-title page, folding table. Fussell (Old English Farming Books) III, p.31; Goldsmiths 17565; ESTC T80368.

Boards rubbed and worn, spine perished, binding tender but holding; early/original owner's extensive ink marginalia on virtually every page, ink annotations to blank endpapers; darkening and dust-soiling to the untrimmed edges of the text block, occasional light damp-stain to the margins.

With sections on Soil, Manures, Livestock, Crops, etc,, etc. and an appendix on Weather. "Banister was a thinker, and made a few cautious steps towards modern theories of plant nutrition" (Fussell). An interesting copy with extensive notes and commentary by an assiduous contemporary student of farming.
