Sm. 4to. 133,(3)pp. With the folding map at back of Scandinavian discoveries in America in the 10th - 14th centuries. Orig. presentation binding of full maroon polished calf, with large blind stamped central ornament on both covers, and gilt tooled borders. The front cover is stamped in gold, "A La Sa. Condesa De Merlin, Ofrenda del Autor." (to the Contessa de Merlin from her friend, the author) Marbled endpapers. Extremities a bit rubbed.    $750.00 (trade discount allowed)
A scarce Cuban imprint on the earliest discoveries of America. La Condesa de Merlin (i.e., Maria Mercedes Santa Cruz y Montalvo, 1789-1849) was a famous Cuban lady from a family of wealth. She grew up in Paris, later returning to Cuba. She authored a number of books. Palau 21633.
