Joseph Amesbury: Practical Remarks on the Causes, Nature, and Treatment of Deformities of the Spine, Chest, and Limbs, Muscular Weakness, Weak Joints, Muscular Contractions, and Stiff Joints; Containing the results of the author's experience, and showing the advantages derived from the modes of treatment which he has recently introduced; with illustrative plates and cases. London: Long, Orme, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1840. First edition. Folio (32 cm) in modern black pebbled cloth, gilt-lettered leather spine label; with 36 lithographed plates, 2 of which are folding (complete).

Tipped on to the front paste-down is the visiting card of J.Y. Simpson MD. i.e., Sir James Young Simpson, 1811-1870, Scottish obstetrician,  president of the Royal Medical Society, and "a significant figure in the history of medicine" (see Wikipedia), presumably the book's original owner. Unobtrusive library ink stamps to the title-page and the versos of the plates (no other library markings); light browning to the text leaves, a few light marginal pencil marks; plates with scattered spotting, browning to the edges, and some damp-staining at the bottom of the gutters.
