[William Hone, ed. and pub.:] The Three Trials of William Hone, for Publishing Three Parodies; viz. The Late John Wilkes's Catechism, The Political Litany, and The Sinecurist's Creed; on Three Ex-officio Informations, at Guildhall, London, during Three Successive Days, December 18, 19, & 20, 1817, before Three Special Juries, and Mr. Justice Abbot, on the first day, and Lord Chief Justice Ellenborough, on the last two days. London: Printed by & for William Hone, 1818. Slim 8vo (22 cm) in early/period half calf and marbled boards; iv, 48 pp.; 45, [3] pp.; 41 pp.; 28 pp.

Four separate works bound in one volume (the first, second, and third trials, plus Trial by Jury and Liberty of the Press, the proceedings of a public meeting held to raise funds for Hone), each with a separate title-page and pagination. William Hone (1780-1842), prolific publisher and satirical pamphleteer, relentless gadfly of the Tory establishment, was tried three times for blasphemy and sedition and acquitted in each case. Vindicated, he quickly and gleefully rushed these transcripts of the trials into print. Binding with light rubbing and edge-wear, a scuff to the front board; spotting to the title-pages and several leaves of the second trial, occasional light spots elsewhere; otherwise clean and sound, firmly bound.
