NEW YORK STATE INFANTRY COMMUTATION FOR JEFFERSON MURRAY, SEPT. 20, 1846.
Printed form, accomplished by hand.  Datelined New-York, this document
notes that Jefferson Murray, residing at 151 Second St in the 17 Ward,
avoided service (during the Mexican-American War) by paying the N.Y.S.
Infantry "...seventy-five cents, being the amount of commuation [sic] money
for military duty for the year 1846...."  Signed by John Stewart, Receiver
of Taxes.  5" x 7.5".  Fine condition.  $65.00
