Scalichius' commentary on the "Vaticinia de Summis Pontificibus" along with his review of the criticism of Paracelsus' book on the same work. The "Vaticinia" has been in the past wrongly attributed to the 12th century mystic Joachim of Fiore, now referred to as Pseudo-Joachim, of Fiore. The text is a mystical series of 30 prophecies regarding the Popes, which mix fantasy, the occult and history. Each prophecy consists of four elements: an enigmatic allegorical text; an emblematic picture (the 31 highly symbolic woodcuts); a motto; and an attribution to a pope. Adams S555, BL German STC p. 782.
