Jean-Baptiste Louvet de Couvray: Narrative of the Dangers to which I have been Exposed, Since the 31st of May, 1793. With Historical Memorandums. By John-Baptist Louvet, one of the representatives proscribed in 1793, now president of the National Convention. London: Printed for J. Johnson, 1795. First edition; 8vo in modern buckram; vii, [1], 239, [1] pp. ESTC N4625.

First edition in English of the author's Quelques notices pour l’histoire, et le récit de mes périls depuis le 31 Mai, 1793. Soiling to the first page and the last, a few bumped/creased corners, light toning, else quite clean and sound, firmly bound. Louvet de Couvray (1760-1797) was a writer, editor, publisher and ardent revolutionary, though not ardent enough for Robespierre and his followers. In May, 1793, he and his fellow Girondists were forced to flee Paris for their lives. His Quelques notices "were mainly written in the various hiding-places in which Louvet took refuge, and they give a vivid picture of the sufferings of the exiled Girondists [and] form a major document for the study of the psychology of the Revolution…" (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 11th ed.).
