John Scott: A Visit to Paris in 1814; Being a Review of the Moral, Political, Intellectual, and Social Condition of the French Capital. [WITH:] Paris Revisited, in 1815, By Way of Brussels: Including a Walk Over the Field of Battle at Waterloo. London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1815, 1817. FIRST EDITION of the first title, fourth edition of the second. Two volumes, tall 8vo (22 cm), in early/period uniform half calf and marbled boards, rebacked with the original spines laid down, marbled endpapers and page edges; xxiii, [1], 338, lxxi, [1] pp.; viii, 405, [1] pp.

Observations on life in the French capital just prior to, and in the immediate aftermath of, the Hundred Days and Napoleon's final defeat at Waterloo. Important sources on the period, the two works were published separately and are not often found together as a uniformly bound set. John Scott (1784-1821) was a radical journalist and editor (The Statesman, The Champion, The London Magazine). In 1821 he was shot and killed in a duel arising from his defense of the "Cockney School" of poets.

Bindings with light rubbing, edge wear; original spines somewhat darkened and worn with a chip from one of the spine labels; contents with light toning, occasional light spotting, but generally very clean and bright, firmly bound.
