Edition. Large quarto (9" x 14") bound in 19th century black morocco 
leather-backed marbled boards with leather corners; frontispiece, (vi) , 
534, (22) pages. Originally published in Amsterdam in 1668, this is the 
First and only French edition of this luxuriously illustrated text with 
an additional engraved title page, a large folding map of Africa, 55 
in-text illustrations, and 42 double-page engravings including 13 maps. 
Includes narratives and descriptions of English, Dutch, Portuguese, and 
Spanish explorers. The illustrations portray flora and fauna, costumes, 
the pyramids, and views of Cairo, Tunis, and other cities, mostly 
engraved by Reinier Noomsz. Some ink ownership markings on verso of 
engraved title-page and on title-page, some light intermittent foxing to 
text, a few plates with very mild chipping or minor damage. Near Fine
