McBride, Allen C., Brigadier General.  EARLY ARCHIVE OF BRIG. GENERAL ALLEN
C. McBRIDE, MARYLAND NATIVE AND VETERAN OF BOTH WORLD WARS, FIELD ARTILLER
OFFICER, GEN. MacARTHUR'S CHIEF OF STAFF IN THE PHILIPPINES, &c. Items from
his early years: 1905-1909.

Contents as follow. (1) ALS, 2pp, datelilned Adamstown, Md., April 3, 1905,
to Dear Miss Alice, he wants to pay a social call on Sunday evening, April
16th, needs directions to her house, &c., signed Allen C. McBride. (2)
Professional sepiatone portrait of McBride in his cadet dress uniform
(5.75" x 3.75" plus mount, signed by photographer; written on verso in
pencil, "Allen C. McBride, St. Johns College, Annapolis, Md, 1906." (3)
"Happy Christmas" embossed postcard from McBride in North Carolina to Miss
Alice Miller, Jefferson, Maryland, Dec. 8 [1906?], social talk, "violets
are blooming," &c. (4) Rat-Tat 1907, published annually by the Junior Class
of St. John's College, Annapolis, MD...Allan C. McBride, Asst. Editor.
Yearboo, pp: 199, (2), xxiv ads for businesses in Annapolis and Baltimore;
illustrations throughout from photographs and drawings, some full-page;
bound in grey cloth, red cover lettering, bit smudged. (5) Professional
sepiatone portrait (5.25" x 2.75") in tall, oval-window mat; written on
verso, "Allen C. McBride, 2nd Lieut., 4th F.A., U.S.A., Dec. 2, 1908." (6)
General Orders No. 11, Vancouver Barracks, Washington, March 8, 1909,
announcing an Indoor Meet at the Post Gymnasium, listing 16 events, teams,
&c., with Lt. A.C. McBride as Scorer, and with his name in pencil. (7)
Special Orders No. 55, Vancouver Barracks, March 29, 1909, re a general
court-martial and listing Lt. McBride as an officer of the court, with his
name in red ink.  (8) 10pp, 8vo, ALS, datelined Vancouver Barracks,
Washington, May 29, 1909, a love letter to Alice Miller at Jefferson, MD,
in torn mailing envelope. A long, elaborate letter pledging his love,
reveling in hers, planning her life as an Army bride, telling of his life
as an Infantry officer, &c. (9) Undated group photo (5" x 7") of about 100
students in front of stone buiilding [St. Paul's?]. (10) Newspaper
clipping, circa 1945, headlined: "Frederick Man on Army Staff in
Philippines / Brig. Gen. McBride Likely With MacArthur's Beseiged Force."
The nine-paragraph article places McBride "in the thick of the fighting in
the 'hot spot' of World War II...continuing to smash repeated Japanese
attempts to mop up the islands." It states that McBride is 56, chief of
staff to General MacArthur, and that relatives had not heard from him in
months. It states also that McBride is a World War I veteran, entering as a
captain and coming out as a lieutentant-colonel, that his wife and youngest
daughter are living in Washington, etc. The clipping includes a photo of
Gen. McBride at the time. Very Good condition.
[McBride's first name is spelled variantly as Allan and Allen in this
file.]  $200.00
