Bullonian Review of the Genuine Marrow of John Bull; of The Real John Bull, and of All the Fighting Bulls of Notoriety. To which is added, the History of the Seven Bulls. By Sylvester Scribbleton, Gent. London: Printed for the Editor, by Z. Jackson; Published by J. Onwhys, 4 Catharine-Street, Strand, [1821]. Pamphlet, 8vo (21 cm); 40 pp.; woodcut vignette to the general title-page. Page gatherings a little loose but still held together, a few corners dog-eared, some light wear.

A lively, amusing, and uncommon survivor from the golden age of journalistic vitriol. Two issues (all published?), dated December 17 and 24, 1820, of this review which largely consists of extracts from two rival periodicals, John Bull and The Real John Bull, on opposing sides of the controversy surrounding George IV and his unlucky bride Queen Caroline. The two issues are preceded by a general title-page, dated March 26, 1821, and a brief, tongue-in-cheek history of the various periodical incarnations — seven in all — of John Bull since 1807. The British Library mentions a third issue dated Dec. 31, 1820, but the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, whose copy's collation matches ours, suggests that only two issues were printed, and the contents page of this collected edition seems to bear this out, as it only lists articles through p. 40, the final page of our copy. In either case, a very short-lived publication, and a scarce one: OCLC locates only two copies (Newberry Library and UT Austin) and COPAC only one (BL).
