William Cobbett: Advice to Young Men, and (incidentally) to Young Women, in the Middle and Higher ranks of Life. In a Series of Letters, addressed to a Youth, a Bachelor, a Lover, a Husband, a Father, a Citizen, or a Subject. London: Printed by Mills, Jowett, and Mills: Published by the Author, 1829 [but 1830?]. Presumed first edition; the last page of the text is dated 1830. Small 8vo (18 cm) in full modern morocco; unpaginated, but ca. 384 pp.

Advice and observations on society from the peripatetic, prolific, reform-minded pamphleteer William Cobbett (1763-1835). In this work, Cobbett strongly criticizes (among other things) Malthus's Essay on the Principle of Population. Binding with sunning to the spine and front cover; early owner's signature to title-page, contents mildly toned, a few leaves with heavier browning and offsetting; one leaf with wear to the edges and a closed tear (repaired); three leaves with a small stain or burn mark to the fore-edge margins, not affecting the text; a few light spots elsewhere, otherwise clean and sound, firmly bound. Front paste-down with the bookplate of noted English bibliophile Charles Benson.
