[George Manners (ed.):] The Satirist, or Monthly Meteor. Vol. I—IV. (October 1, 1807—June 1, 1809.) London: Printed for Samuel Tipper, 1808-09. First edition. Four volumes, 8vo (22 cm); early/period marbled boards rebacked in modern citron morocco, gilt-lettered spine labels; 562, 556, 556, 630 pp. With 20 folding engraved plates, 7 of which are hand-colored, the others printed in sepia.

A notorious, scurrilous Tory monthly targeting agents of "radical reform" such as Sheridan, Lord Byron, Sir Francis Burdett, etc., as well the "prevailing foibles and whimsical absurdities of the present day" (e.g., "the ridiculous meublomanie, or rage for furniture and domestic embellishment"). Bindings with modest wear to the edges and corners; some offsetting to and from the plates, several plates with paper repairs to the versos, one plate splitting at the fold; occasional browning and light spots, else clean and sound, firmly bound.
