Twelve political/satirical pamphlets bound together in one volume; tall 8vo (22 cm), early half calf and marbled boards, original gilt-lettered morocco spine label ("Cruikshanks Wood Cuts"). Five of the works are first editions, as noted above. All but two of the works are illustrated by George Cruikshank (indicated above by references to Cohn); one is illustrated by his brother, Robert Cruikshank.

A unique and delightful collection of (mostly) satirical works from the golden age of political vituperation. The principal target of the attacks is the Prince Regent (subsequently George IV), particularly for his treatment of his spouse, Princess Caroline. Other victims of abuse include John Stoddart ("Dr. Slop"), Lord Castlereagh, and virtually every member of the Tory government. The scarce fold-out cardboard ladder is present in the Queen's Matrimonial Ladder (laid down on paper backing), as are the three folding plates in A Slap at Slop. Binding with some rubbing, creasing to the spine, wear to the corners, joints professionally repaired; occasional browning to the leaves, a few closed edge tears, scattered light spotting, staining and touches of soiling, a few penciled (erasable) marginal notes identifying the subjects of the satires, else clean and sound, securely bound. Front free (blank) endpaper with the signatures of the original owner and two subsequent owners, including that of "Henry Giglioli, Florence, 1871,"  presumably the Italian zoologist and ethnographer (1845-1909).
