Paul & Dominic Colnaghi & Co., 1855. First Edition. Large folio (15" x 
22") bound in modern 3/4 green morocco leather with marbled boards and 
endpapers, a gilt-lettered and decorated spine with five raised bands, 
all edges gilt. With lithographed dedication and plate list on the 
verso. Illustrated with a hand-colored vignette title-page and 39 
additional hand-colored plates, most retaining interleaved thin paper 
guards printed with key to the facing image. Simpson's work is 
impressive "not only artistically and technically, but also as pictorial 
reporting. Simpson must in this way rank as an early war correspondent" 
(Abbey, Travel 237). Some foxing, light staining, and toning, plates 
generally bright and fresh. Near Fine.
