[Rarebooks] FS: Beautiful French Botanical Periodical with 690 Hand-Colored Plates

ANNALES DE FLORE ET DE POMONE, OU JOURNAL DES JARDINS ET DES CHAMPS. 
Paris: Rousselon and others, 1833-1846. First Edition. Fifteen octavo 
(5-3/4" x 8-7/8") volumes bound in uniform contemporary half black 
morocco leather and marbled paper boards with the spines lettered and 
ruled in gilt. A nearly complete set, lacking only the last volume, 
containing 690 beautiful hand-colored plates, 17 of which are folding, 
and 1 folding black-and-white plate. This early French horticultural 
periodical was a rival to Curtis's Botanical Magazine in the quality of 
its plates which here are unsigned, but several illustrious French 
botanical illustrators and engravers, including Maubert, were involved 
in its creation. We could find only one complete set at auction in the 
last 30 years and only one currently in the trade, possibly the same 
set. Sporadic foxing and toning to the text and plates, but most plates 
are not foxed. Very Good and scarce. (#019036)        $20,000.00
