Four Varied Healthy Items-

1) 1870s New England Chronic Disease Traveling Specialists Business
Card. An elegant business card for Drs. William S. Severance and E.W.
Royce, “Chronic diseases a specialty by preference”, who will be at
Crawford’s House in Boston on the 1st and 2nd days of every month of the
year. The good doctors seem to have also traveled Vermont as they took
out much the same advertisements in a number of papers in that state for
monthly appearances. The Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association published
a memorial of Dr. Severance [1829-1918], a member, in 1919, and note
that he lived in Greenfield, Shelburne Falls, and several Vermont towns
during his career. 4.5”x2.5”. Minor soil, light wear. $20

2) "On a Method of Embalming the Dead by the use of Thymol”. By Dr.
Wywodzoff. Printed in Philadelphia for the Russian Commission in 1876.
Dr. Wywodzoff had recently published sweeping study of embalming, and
here recounts some experiments he conducted himself, with descriptions
of the process and apparatus involved. Thymol is a plant-based
antiseptic found in thyme and bee-balm which has been found useful by
both the medical and culinary fields. Its use in embalming does not seem
to have caught on. Softcover. 5.5”x9”. 10 pages, 1 text illustrations.
Minor soil, light wear, spine splitting. Cover stamped “Dr. S. T.
Armstrong”. $65

Agents” Ephemera. The National Remedy Company, “Manufacturing Chemists
(and) Proprietary Medicines”, of New York City, were looking for agents
to sell their cra-, er, patent medicines of great value and efficacy.
Hmm. Although I cannot find any record of the company having ever been
sued or indicted, their remedies as listed here included Wonderful
Japanese Oil, Dr. Swan’s Liver & Kidney Cure, National Specific for
Malaria, and Cascara Pills, so draw your own conclusions. 3 pieces.
