Thomas Frognall Dibdin: Bibliomania; or Book Madness: A Bibliographical Romance, in Six Parts. London: Printed for the Author, 1811. Thick 8vo (21.5 cm) in early/period diced calf; ix, [3], 782, [2]; with the half-title and terminal errata leaf; engraved frontispiece and title-page vignette, numerous in-text wood- and copper-engraved vignettes, introductory page of each part in decorative border.

Revised and expanded from the first edition of 1809. The best-known work of Thomas Frognall Dibdin (1776-1847), bibliographer, lover of books, librarian to Lord Spencer at Althorpe. One of the foundational works on book collecting, its pleasures and perils. Apart from the unfortunate loss to the leather at the foot of the spine, a very good copy: scattered light spotting, occasional offsetting from the vignettes; leaf B2 with a closed tear to the fore-edge, leaf R7 with a chip from the upper corner affecting the page numbers; early/original owner’s ink marginalia to the bottom of pp. 224-5 and signature to front free-endpaper; otherwise clean and sound, securely bound. Front paste-down with the small contemporary bookbinder’s label of J. H. Drew.
