WEBSTER, Daniel. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS). Fulton (?) Hotel, Nov.
2, n.y. A 2-page letter written on both sides of one sheet and SIGNED by
Webster declining an invitation "to the dinner intended to be given to
Mr. Brown." (As Mr. Brown's "official duties of his public station
abroad" is mentioned in the letter, it likely refers to James Brown
(1766 - 1835), Louisiana lawyer, U.S. Senator, and Minister to France.
The Monroe Doctrine was delivered to the French Government while he was
minister.) In addition Webster lists the 11 members of the committee
that the letter is addressed to at the end of the letter. Creases from
folding, still Very Good. (#017952) $850.00
