Major Herbert H. Austin: Among Swamps and Giants in Equatorial Africa. An Account of Surveys and Adventures in the Southern Sudan and British East Africa. London: C. Arthur Pearson, 1902. First edition; thick 8vo (23 cm) in original publisher's red cloth; xii + 354 pp.; with photographic plates and 2 folding maps.

Account of the author's survey of the Sobat Region in what is now South Sudan, as well as his journey from Omdurman to Mobasa via Lake Rudolf. With maps of The Sobat River and Part of the Blue Nile, and The Land Journey from Nasser to the Uganda Railway at Lake Nakuro. Binding with some wear and rubbing, bumps to the extremities, short tears to the head of the spine; front inner hinge cracked but secure; text leaves with various degrees of foxing, the plates and folding maps quite clean and sharp, a couple of discreet tape repairs to the verso of one map. Front paste-down with the armorial bookplate of A.J.M. Perkins ("Toujours Loyale").
