Roma [title on cover]. An album of albumen or albumen-style photographic prints of artwork, sculptures, and antiquities of Rome, some trimmed, many annotated with ms. commentary. Ca. late nineteenth- or early twentieth-century. Large, heavy folio (35 x30 cm) in full vellum or vellum-like parchment with gilt-tooled lettering and decorations by Enrico Andersen, Roma (with his small binder's label on front free-endpaper and gilt-lettered name on spine foot); gilt & brown endpapers patterned in Renaissance style; page edges dyed red; front paste-down with the armorial bookplate of Thomas Longueville, possibly the novelist of that name (1844-1922).

With 68 photos, mounted on 40 leaves, of classical statues as well as works by Michelangelo, Bernini, Correggio, Canova, etc. Binding with touches of light soiling, bumping to the corners; leaves a bit cockled and toned at the edges, else clean and sound, firmly bound. An unusual and appealing example of a late-Victorian Grand Tour album.
