[Samuel Johnson; Joseph Addison; Richard Steele; George Lyttelton; John Hawkesworth; etc.:] Harrison's British Classicks. London: Printed for Harrison and Co., no. 48, Paternoster Row, 1785-87. First edition thus. Seven (of eight) volumes, 8vo (21.5 cm), in early/period crimson morocco-backed marbled boards; engraved title-pages, 113 copper-engraved plates.

Lacking the last volume of the set, but complete in itself, containing, in their entirety: The Rambler; Persian Letters; The Adventurer; The Guardian; The Tatler; The Spectator; The Connoisseur; The Citizen of the World; The Babler; The World; Dialogues of the Dead. With engravings after Stothard, Burney, Heath and others. First edition of this collection of canonical eighteenth-century periodical prose.

Front endpapers of each volume with the bookplate, signature and penciled annotations (re. the plates) of Roger Senhouse (1899-1970), publisher, translator, editor, bibliophile, member of the Bloomsbury Group, and "the very last of Lytton Strachey's great love affairs" (Holroyd, Lytton Strachey, v. II, p. 542). Bindings with rubbing and wear to the edges and corners, two spine labels missing; contents a tad musty, with light to moderate toning, some scattered spotting, offsetting and foxing, a few leaves with heavier spotting; one plate with a closed tear to the bottom margin; else generally quite clean and sound, firmly bound.
